Role: UI/UX Lead Designer
Collaborators: Platvorm, Stuudio Stuudio, Disainiosakond
Visual Identity (CVI): AKU, Ryan Chapman
Project Overview:
The Tallinn 2035 Strategy website is an innovative and interactive platform that effectively communicates the city's strategic vision and progress towards its long-term goals. As one of the three lead UI/UX designers, I played a key role in transforming the city's strategic data into an engaging, user-friendly, and visually compelling web experience.

Design Approach:
Main idea was to create a website where user gets a quick overview of the strategy without opening different layers and pages - introduction text and correlating image are shown in pairs, every user can read more by clicking on the "read more" button. So the site gives an opprtunity to just scroll through the info and have a quick introduction to the topics.
Collaborative Design Leadership:
-
Worked closely with two other lead designers to ensure a cohesive design vision and seamless integration of various design elements.
-
Facilitated collaborative brainstorming sessions and design reviews to align on creative direction and user experience goals.
Design for Diverse Audience:
-
Focused on creating an intuitive navigation structure to make the website accessible and easy to use for a diverse audience, including city officials and residents.
-
Conducted user research and usability testing to refine the interface, ensuring it meets the needs and expectations of all users.
Interactive Data Visualization:
-
Developed interactive elements such as progress indicators and charts to provide an engaging, Excel-free overview of the city's progress.
-
Utilized dynamic graphics and animations to make complex data more accessible and visually appealing.
Responsive and Accessible Design:
-
Ensured the website is fully responsive, delivering a comprehensive experience across all devices, from desktops to smartphones.
-
Adhered to accessibility standards to ensure the site is usable by individuals with varying abilities, incorporating features like keyboard navigation and screen reader compatibility.
-
Consulted with the Estonian Blind Association to ensure the site meets high accessibility standards and is usable for visually impaired users.
Interactive Maps:
-
Integrated interactive maps that allow users to explore different regions of Tallinn, providing spatial context to the strategic initiatives.
-
Designed maps to be both engaging and informative, enhancing the user's understanding of local impacts.
Visual Storytelling:
-
Employed a visual storytelling approach to present the strategy, using custom illustrations and visuals to highlight key points and make the content more engaging.
-
Focused on creating a cohesive visual identity that aligns with the CVI provided by AKU and Ryan Chapman, ensuring a consistent and professional appearance.
Content Support for City Specialists:
-
Developed a robust content management system to allow city specialists to easily update and manage the strategy content.
-
Provided additional content layers with detailed guides and resources to support the implementation of the strategy.
Collaboration and Tools:
This project was executed in collaboration with Platform, Studio Studio, and Disainiosakond, with the visual identity crafted by AKU and Ryan Chapman. The collaborative effort among the design team and partners ensured a comprehensive and cohesive web design that effectively communicates Tallinn's strategic vision.

Implementation and Tools:
-
The design was crafted using Figma, enabling efficient collaboration and iteration among the design team and stakeholders.
-
Worked in close relation with developers to ensure the design was implemented accurately and effectively, maintaining design integrity throughout the development process.
